I guess I started off here backwards and just started posting away before ever introducing myself.

My name is Mike and I live in North Carolina, US. Ive got a wife, kids, dogs, the usual stuff. I am also 46yrs old, which to some is late to start a career off in tattooing. To me its never too late to learn something and as long as air is runnning through my lungs Ill continue to do the things in life that bring me joy.

I have been involved in art in some way or another all of my life. I have painted with just about every media there is and like to draw when I have the time. I was successful in selling my painting in Galleries in New Orleans and am proud to say that I have shipped them all over the world. I have accomplished that, now, I want to accomplish tattoos.

I have only done a handful of "REAL" tattoo's and although, I know how to do them I still battle confidence. I have the shakes when I start out, which i usually fiend off with a couple shots of whiskey. But i really need to gain my self confidence with this art form. I really love everything there is about it right down to the smell of the green soap.

with that said heres a few pics of some of my art work and my very first tattoo ever done!

Hi Mike

Great pictures you have obviously lots of talent. That guitar tattoo looks good too especially as it's your first, all those straight lines and detail must have been challenging. I also started tattooing when I was 46 and joined this site straight away which was about a year ago. I went on a 3 day intensive course last December and gained a fair amount of knowledge from that, but the help and advice I got (and still get) from the members is second to none. I only started tattooing real skin in the last few months after practicing on pig skin every day for about 8 months. I still practice on pig skin regulary in between real tattoos and often do a tattoo on pig skin before doing the real one so tha the client can see what it will look like, and also It makes it easier for me as I have already done it once before.
I would recommemd joining as a premium member because of all the extra information available, and stay in touch regulary as you have been doing already. I'm not sure if I would have continued tattooing without the support from other members so I am very grateful for that.
I guess you will be finished in Afghanistan soon and hope it goes ok for you,and good luck with the tattooing.

Nice art work. It seems like there are quite a few of us here who are starting out tattooing in our 30s and 40s who are looking at learning it in an alternative way to working for months/years for no money (some of us need to earn a living!). This is a great forum with a lot of helpful people.
